Consular clash
FORT SMITH, Ark. — An Arkansas resident lost her federal lawsuit against the Department of State, whose U.S. consular officer in El Salvador allegedly acted in bad faith when it denied her husband an immigrant visa to the U.S. based on the accusation that he is a member of a criminal organization. She said the official threatened to deny the visa if he did not provide law enforcement with info on gang activity. Consular officer decisions on immigration are nonreviewable, “largely immune from judicial control.”
