Debate coach aggrieved

FORT WORTH, Texas — A former high school debate coach in Texas saw most of his civil rights claims against two school administrators tossed in federal court. The administrators issued a letter reprimanding him for continuing to interact with students and coaches after he voluntarily resigned his position, then kept him from entering school district property without a “valid educational reason.” His procedural due process claim and his freedom of speech and association claims are not dismissed because his reputation has been damaged and the district cannot restrict his First Amendment rights now that he is not its employee.
