(CN) — Less than a week out from Election Day, polls released Wednesday indicate Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her GOP rival Donald Trump remain locked in a dead heat in the swing states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
In Pennsylvania, a Quinnipiac University poll found Trump has 47% support from likely voters with Harris just behind at 46% support. Meanwhile in Wisconsin, a Marquette Law School Poll reported Harris holds 50% support of likely voters and while Trump holds 49%. Both poll results fall within the margin of error.
Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy noted Wednesday that in Pennsylvania, the split in support between male and female voters has widened since the institution’s Oct. 9 poll “with Trump increasing his lead among men, as what remains a very tight race heads into the final stretch."
In Pennsylvania, men back Trump 57 to 37%, while women back Harris 55 to 39%. In the previous poll, men supported Trump 52% to 41% and women supported Harris 55% to 40%.
Malloy noted voters surveyed seemed to agree on one thing.
“More than half of likely voters say Nov. 5, 2024, will mark an unmatched milestone, the most consequential Election Day they have experienced," Malloy said, a sentiment where “a deeply divided country finds common ground.”
According to Quinnipiac, 52% of those surveyed said the 2024 election would be the “single most important election of their lifetimes” while an additional 30% said it was “more important than most other elections.”
Notably, the Wisconsin poll found that in a multicandidate race, Harris leads Trump 46% to 44%, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — who the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered kept on Wisconsin and Michigan ballots — getting just 5% of likely voter support. Harris’ Wisconsin numbers have shrunk since late September. In a previous Marquette poll, she led Trump 52% to 48% among likely voters.
Harris’ lead has also dropped in Pennsylvania, according to Quinnipiac. Its Oct. 9 poll showed the vice president with 49% support to Trump’s 46%.
Malloy also cautioned Wednesday that the Pennsylvania poll suggested the majority of early voters, 63%, back Harris, while just 32% support Trump — a scenario that could set the stage for a nail-biting night of live election results.
"While a majority of the approximately 7 million Pennsylvanians voting will do so at a polling place, possibly 2 million citizens will have cast their ballot early by mail,” said Malloy. “History tells us that the candidate who looks like a clear winner on Election Night based on Election Day voting could well be a loser once the hand count of the early vote is finally completed.”
In Wisconsin, 52% of early voters have been Trump supporters and to 47% for Harris supporters. Among absentee voters, Harris supporters dominate 70% to 30%.
Quinnipiac surveyed 2,186 likely voters in Pennsylvania between Oct. 24-28 and estimates a margin of error of +/- 2.1%.
Marquette surveyed 834 registered Wisconsin voters between Oct. 16-24 and estimates a margin of error of +/-4.4%.
