NYPD racial profiling
BROOKLYN — After a Black retired U.S. Army staff sergeant was pulled over in a November 2023 traffic stop, he told the officers that he had a gun in the glove department. In an act he calls racial profiling, the retired soldier says hew as arrested and detained without probable cause; charges were later dropped but he brought a civil rights claim. He sought to depose former New York Police Department commissioner Edward Cabana and the current commissioner, Michael Gerber, but the court precluded these depositions because they do not have first-hand knowledge and were not personally involved in these events.
