WASHINGTON (CN) - President Obama has created an Export Enforcement Coordination Center within the Department of Homeland Security to better enforce export control laws through interagency sharing of intelligence and law enforcement information.
The executive order establishing the center designates it as the primary forum within the government to indentify and resolve conflicts between agencies and as the primary point of contact between enforcement and export licensing agencies.
The center also will begin government-wide statistical tracking operations for U.S. Criminal and administrative export control enforcement activities.
The center will be lead by a director appointed by the Secretary of Homeland Security, with two deputy directors one seconded from the Department of Justice and the other from the Department of Commerce.
