ANCHORAGE (CN) - The Center for Biological Diversity demands that Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne place the Pacific walrus on the endangered species list. The environmentalists say the walrus' tenuous existence as a species (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) is further threatened by oil and gas drilling in its homeland and the disappearance of Bering Sea ice due to global warming.
