Three Stole ‘Hundreds Of Thousands’|Meant For Needy Children, Feds Say

MANHATTAN (CN) - A former supervisor of adoptions for New York City's Children's Services department conspired with two contractors to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars intended for needy children, federal prosecutors say.

Charged are Nigel Osarenkhoe, former supervisor of adoptions for New York City's Administration For Children's Services Payment Services Department; Stay Thompson aka Stay Daniels, fiscal director for Concord Family Services; and Philbert Gorrick, a former independent contractor with Concord.

Lethem Duncan, another defendant, pleaded guilty in July to an information, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Osarenkhoe is accused of having $265,930 in ACS checks sent to his wife; sending $145,845 in ACS checks to Thompson/Daniels, who kicked some back to Osarenkhoe; and another payment to Thompson/Daniels. Osarenkhow was arrested on July 16 after receiving a kickback from that payment in his office, prosecutors said.

Gorrick and Thompson were arrested after allegedly getting $1,086,420 in fraudulent ACS checks for "fictitious computer services," the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
